A LOW-WASTE
PHILOSOPHY
Americans generate about 4.4 pounds of waste per person per day. Annually, we pile up about 254 million tons of waste, of which approximately 53 percent is trashed, usually ending up in a landfill.
Sebastián and Karla Tennies Koziura became more interested in protecting the environment when they took 18 months off to live and travel on a sailboat. There was always discussion among the sailing community about the huge floating island of plastic and garbage floating in the oceans. It was disheartening for them to see plastic bags floating in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. This was enough of an inspiration to bring low-waste philosophy into the FRÍO Gelato business model.
We’re joining an environmental movement in which stores and customers seek to reduce waste, sending less to the landfill. In addition to adopting BYOC (Bring Your Own Container)*, FRÍO Gelato is now composting at our production kitchen, phasing out our unrecyclable packaging at our stores, and we brought back our wooden spoons.
BRING YOUR
OWN CONTAINER
Now we ask you, the customer, to fill your tummy and not the landfills! We encourage you to BYOC - or purchase one of our new FRÍO Gelato stainless steel containers - and receive discounts on gelato every time you bring them in.
We are working hard not to trash the planet.
